What have I learned doing this Blog

Having the opportunity to create this blog for my FDOM class has really taught me several things that both benefit me for my career, but also create a professional connection with social media. When I first heard about how we will have to create a blog and socialize what interest me and write stories about the things that I like, I just thought that this whole blog the entire semester can really help me in creating better blog post, getting better at writing and also becoming a better blogger in general because I have never had my own site before.

First off, I know that my blog site is not that organized and well designed compared to how other people have designed their blogs and I guess that is something I would like to improve on because I would like my site to be both presentable and informational. Another thing I wish I could have done better is by promoting my articles on the blog more and by saying that, I think it would have been better seen by people if I had posted it on other social media than just Twitter or WordPress. I think the best thing about this experience with the blog over the semester is being able to write about my favorite football team, the Cleveland Browns because it fits into what my site is about and I get to research and talk about things going on from day-to-day in the organization. Lastly, this site is beneficial to me in the future because I am going into a field where it requires daily or weekly updates, writing stories for the public to read, and also the fact that I can use the tools of WordPress to get better at being a blogger in which can help build my resume for jobs in the future.

Looking back at how things have gone down over the semester, I gotta say my blog could have done better. According to WordPress, my most popular blog post this semester was my first post which was my introduction to what my site was going to be about as it had 17 total views. I think it’s my most popular post because its the very first one of the entire site and people reading my post would like to know who writes the stories. Another thing to look at is the most popular time for my blog which is this past week actually as it has 26 total views with 5 visitors. Looking at the sites data and stuff, I guess you can say I am kind of surprised that my site was not that popular compared to others, but at the end of the day, this is all a learning process for the future.

Cleveland Browns release 2020 NFL football schedule

Today is another big day for the National Football League as they revealed the 2020 season schedules for all teams in the league. In particular, the Cleveland Browns revealed the new schedules and at first glance, you can tell that this is one good looking team lineup throughout the season.

Right out the gate, the Browns begin the 2020 NFL season on the road in Baltimore as they square off with their in-division and reigning, defending, division champions, the Baltimore Ravens. After that, the Browns return home for a two game stay as they welcome the in-state rival, Cincinnati Bengals for the Battle of Ohio on Thursday night Football on September 17th and the Washington Redskins on the 27th. The next week, Browns will travel for another tough road test as they go into ‘Jerry’s World’ to face off with America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys before returning home to play the Indianapolis Colts in a 4:25 pm kickoff on October 11th. The next two weeks will be on the road as the Browns travel to Pittsburgh to play their in-division rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers and then renewing the second Battle of Ohio match up with Cincinnati on the road before finishing the first half of the season at home against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Browns have a mid-way bye week in week 9 of the NFL season before starting up the second-half by having a two game home-stand against Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans on Nov. 15 and then hosting Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles on the 22nd. Cleveland will go on the road for the next two weeks as they face off with the Jacksonville Jaguars then the Tennessee Titans before returning home to play the Baltimore Ravens in the ‘Dawg Pound’ on Monday Night Football, December 14th. After that the Browns will be calling Metlife Stadium home for the next two weeks as they travel to play the NY Giants on the 20th and later returning to play the NY Jets on either the 26th or 27th. The final home game/regular season game will be with no other than the hated, Pittsburgh Steelers in Cleveland on January 3rd before entering post-season play.

What a schedule the Browns have this year, according to William Hill from CBSSports.com, the Cleveland Browns are projected to finish the season at 8.5 wins which is 2 games higher than their amount of wins in the 2019 season. Will the Browns finally make it to the playoffs for the first time since their last playoff appearance back in 2002?

Precautionary Measures taken for UFC 249

On Saturday, May 9th, the world will get its return of Ultimate Fighting Championships or Mixed Martial Arts, but this Pay-per-view event is going to look a whole lot different than what UFC fans have seen before. The event will take place in Jacksonville, Florida at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

The first of many changes made due to the coronavirus pandemic, is the fact that this event will have no fans in attendance other than essential personnel and broadcasting production crews. Another change that fans will be seeing on Saturday night is the fact that broadcast teams will be sitting tables apart from one another and the idea of not having post fight interviews in the octagon will take affect at the event as well. Another change that we will start seeing from the UFC for the future until this pandemic passes over is having all crew members wearing protective equipment, masks, and gloves in order to help infecting others. There will also be a break in between each fight in order for personnel to go into the cage and having the opportunity to disinfect the octagon to help prevent anything spreading.

Rather than what we see on the TV from the Pay-per-view, there will be many changes made behind the scenes as well for the first fighting event in over a month. The number of people on the production crew has been reduced by about 50, from a normal group of about 130 to somewhere in the 80s. The number of personnel in the production truck will be limited with the use of mobile units, and those who remain in the truck will be separated by plastic partitions. Social distancing will be practiced in the arena area by staff and media members, of which fewer than 20 will be present.

Tony Ferguson will face off with Justin Gaethje for the interim Lightweight championship in the Main Event as Henry Cejudo defends his Bantamweight championship against Dominick Cruz in the co-main event.

My review about ‘Dawgs by Nature, A Cleveland Browns Community’

As I have mentioned before in my first blog post, pursuing a career in the sports media field has always been a lifelong dream of mine since I could even remember. Having the opportunity to pursue my dream at Texas State University has helped make me realize that I’ve chosen the right path in what i want to do in the future. Since beginning my own blog that has to do with sports, I needed some inspiration in to how to organize my site and how to write blog post about the latest news going around sports.

There is this sports blog that I have been following for several years now that is called the “Dawgs by Nature, a Cleveland Browns community,” and it is a blog that follows and reports everything that deals with the local NFL football team, The Cleveland Browns. The reason why I find inspiration in their sports blogging and putting it into my own way is because I love the Cleveland Browns, and because they are my team, I want to be up to date with the latest going around in the organization and with Dawgs by Nature, I am able to do so.

I enjoy the fact that Dawgs by Nature is always having stories getting posted day in and day out keeping us informed throughout the period in which there is no football, basically keeping me in the Browns loop as the NFL season won’t start up anytime soon. I think their blog is truly unique because you have the opportunity to upload your own ‘fan shots’ or even having the option in posting your blog under the ‘fan post’. I think it is cool that this blog interacts with their fans and is giving a voice to everyone who comes about their site. Personally, I read their post and try to keep an eye out to how they write and publish their stories so that I can learn what it takes to become a better sports writer and gain more experience.

You can follow the link here https://www.dawgsbynature.com/ to check out Dawgs by Nature yourself! Also you can follow Dawgs by Nature on twitter here https://twitter.com/DawgsByNature if you cannot access their blog site.

Halfway through the inaugural season of the XFL

As we have hit the halfway mark of the first ever football season in the XFL, I have to say, it is far from disappointment and provides some very entertaining action. The most entertaining team to watch in the XFL would have to be the Houston Roughnecks, they are the lone undefeated team in the league and have been putting up big numbers on their opponents with their star QB P.J. Walker at the helm. P.J Walker has been the MVP of the league so far as he has racked up 1338 total yards, has a 65 percent completion rate and a QB rating of 104.4 with 15 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. The Roughnecks currently are running away with the west in the latest standings midway through the season as they lead the two and three LA Wildcats and fellow Texas foe Dallas Renegades. The Seattle Dragons sit at the bottom of the west at one and four.

Looking at the east side of the XFL, it is a much tighter division than the west as there is a three way tie for first place as the New York Guardians, D.C. Defenders and the St. Louis Battlehawks all are at three and two on the season. The Tampa Bay Vipers sit at the bottom of the east at one and four. The St Louis. Battlehawks QB Jordan Ta’amu has been more than impressive as he leads the east division with 1050 total yards, has a 72 percent completion rate and a 101.3 average QB rating with five touchdowns and 2 interceptions on the year has opened up some eyes as he was being overlooked as a QB in this league with the other big name QB’s in the league like Landry Jones from Dallas, Cardelle Jones from D.C, Matt McGloin from the big apple, and Josh Johnson from Hollywood.

The XFL has been so entertaining in the past five weeks of the regular season and it has gained a lot of attention and is in good standing as a league in which is presumably a great sign for a successful football league since the National Football League was formed and other leagues have come and go to disbanding in the past, but the XFL looks like it can fit in as an alternative football league to the National Football League.

Feel free to follow the link to learn more about the latest of the XFL –> https://www.xfl.com/

Texas State earns Conference Semi-Final spot in New Orleans with latest victory over App State!

Strahan Arena was rocking last night as the Texas State Bobcats faced off with the Mountaineers of Appalachin State and defeated them by a score of 85 to 68 in the Sun Belt Tournament quarterfinals and earned the right to play in New Orleans, LA in the final rounds of the conference postseason. Texas State is the three seed in the sun belt conference, while the Mountaineers were a six seed that had defeated the tenth seeded Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in order to earn a trip to San Marcos.

The Bobcats were led by all-time Texas State scorer, Nijal Pearson and Junior Forward, Isaiah Small, as they both played pivotal roles in the Texas State victory. Nijal Pearson finished the night off with 23 points as he went 9 for 15 from the field, including two from beyond the arc. Small had a career high 23 points in the victory over Appalachin State who went 9 for 11 from the field and was also one rebound shy of having a double double on the night. Texas State had many runs throughout the game to help stretch the lead and at a point in the second half, the Bobcats were leading by over 20 as they ran away with the game and sealed the deal.

Texas State Basketball asked for the fans to come and support them in this conference game and sanctioned the game to become a white out event by providing the first 3,000 fans in attendance with a free bobcat white-out shirt. Texas State fans came in full force as they came through and helped boost the team’s confidence in the victory over App State. There were 6,308 fans that came out and attended the game recording the second-largest crowd in Strahan Arena.

The Bobcats were set to play the second seeded South Alabama Jaguars, but with the recent events of the Coronavirus, there might not be a game to be played due to the possible cancellation of March Madness and all conference basketball tournaments.

The final regular-season home games are upon us and a lot is at stake!

The Texas State Bobcats look to stay in the win column as they host Georgia Southern in Strahan Arena on Thursday, February 20th and Georgia State on Saturday, February 22nd. The Bobcats have played pretty solid in the last 10 games as they have won eight out of the ten games.

This is a huge weekend for the Bobcats because not only are they trying to finish the regular season on a high not, they are trying to get a good seed in the Sun Belt Tournament in a few weeks which is crucial in the opportunity of possibly making the ‘big tournament’ also know as NCAA Tournament. Texas State is currently tied with Georgia Southern in third place in the Sun Belt standings at an 10 and 6 conference record. Not only that, but second place Georgia State comes into San Marcos also and a victories over both opponents can propel the Bobcats into the second spot in the conference.

If the Bobcats are to compete with both Georgia schools, they are gonna need their all-time scoring leader at Texas State senior, Nijal Pearson has to bring his ‘A’ game and continue putting up points for his team. Nijal is also coming off of being the Sun Belt Player of the Week as he averaged 21 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4 assists in the recent wins over Little Rock and Arkansas State. Other members of the team such as sophomore guard, Mason Harrel, and junior forward, Isaiah Smalls, all have to help contribute if the Bobcats want to finish out the home game slate on a high note.

After the home games this weekend, the Bobcats will play in their last conference games of the regular season before the conference tournament as they will travel to UT Arlington on Friday, February 28th and going on the road at South Alabama on Tuesday, March 3rd.
